Making Mother's Day Special for the Mom with Dementia
Here are some things you could do together:
- Eat a special treat or enjoy a nice cup of coffee or tea
- Polish her nails or style her hair
- Gather an assortment of beaded necklaces, bracelets, hats, and scarves and have fun trying things on. Be sure to have a mirror!
- Sing favorite songs together or listen to them from an ipod
- Give a hand massage or provide aromatherapy
- Look at a photo album together
- Have a friendly animal visit - cats, dogs, even a hamster in a ball!
- Have young child stop by and enjoy a snack together or look at baby pictures.
- Read favorite nursery rhymes or childhood stories together
Being in the moment together and just loving each other as you are now is all you need to honor Mother's Day. And that can truly happen whenever, wherever, and however it ends up working best.
