Traditional puzzles, with many, similar looking pieces and detailed images, are too difficult and confusing for patients with dementia.  MindStart puzzle products are unique because the images have only a few, simple objects in each image, making it easier for the user to find pieces that go together; for example, the red poinsettias and green evergreen in the Winter puzzle.  This design feature, along with having less puzzle pieces, allow people with dementia to have the right level of brain stimulation and success.

"Large piece puzzles benefit people with memory loss from Alzheimer's"

Therapist Tip: MindStart jigsaw puzzles provide cognitive stimulation for people with Alzheimer's by using the skills of visual skills, problem solving, matching, and coordination of the fingers.  They also can spark memory  and conversation through the image depicted on the puzzle.  MindStart puzzles are a form of therapy for adults with all forms of dementia and also head injury, stroke, Parkinson's or frail elderly who tire easily. Also, the large size of the puzzle pieces help seniors with vision loss, as they can easily see and handle the pieces.  The Winter puzzle can stimulate conversation about holiday traditions, winter activities, and favorite winter time foods and drinks.

The four seasons: Great puzzle collection
My husband, who has Alzeimers loves this collection: winter, spring, summer, fall. The fact that there are words written does help him remember them. I'll take them apart every night and leave them in their boxes. Next morning he's looking for them and starts all over again putting them together. He is so proud when he's done. Whoever put this collectiontogether understood what dementia people need. -- On the other hand, the pieces are of very good quality and the perfect size: not too large, not too small. I will certainly recommend them to other caregivers who take care of people with dementia.
